FROM MARINE WASTE TO FASHION

OUR PROCESS

The UPSEA™ plastic that is used in our products has been created from marine plastic waste that we have collected and recycled ourselves. Plastic does not disintegrate like natural products; it decomposes in microplastics that gets ingested by animals. Recycling is the first step to break this circle, but we need to change the way we design, consume and produce, and make all of us part of our story.

Before manufacturing we collect the waste from ports around the world, manually separate the plastics to regenerate the plastic into raw material which we then get certified from Cradle to Cradle(tm). This certification is the world’s most advanced, science-based standard regarding designing and making products for the Circular Economy.

100% HANDMADE IN ITALY

EYEWEAR PROCESS

We teamed up with a great family that have been manufacturing frames for the last 50 years for the most prestigious brands. Each frame is built from start to finish combining the traditional methods of production with the Italian ‘savoir faire’. For each frame, the entire process can last from 8 to 24 weeks.

Design

When we design products, we think about producing a genuine product extremely light and robust, 100% seastainable that will please the tastes of any markets and customers.

Production

Once the 3D prints are approved the UPSEA™ polymer will be injected in the molds. When set they will spend a couple of days in the tumblers, which are containers filled with small chips of beech and birch wood, this process ensures the frames are perfectly smooth.

The perfect finish

After tumbling, each part is re-inspected and polished, every small imperfection is smoothed away. Next is hand varnishing, this makes every pair unique thanks to Roberto (pictured) and his team.

The Sea2see logo

Some brands like Sea2see still mark each temple by hand, when most brands in the eyewear production use lasers.

Lenses

Simone (pictured) heads the lenses cutting area. Anything can be cut, whether its mineral, polycarbonate, nylon, CR39, polarized.

Packaging & MArketing

Our Commitment goes beyond our products, all packaging elements are 100% sustainable. Using Compostable elements, plant based inks and recycled cloths made from PET bottles. POS is on request to reduce waste.
